Endometriosis occurs when the endometrial tissue, or the inner lining of the uterus, implants outside of the uterus. The most common sites of endometriosis in the pelvis include the ovaries, fallopian tubes, ligaments supporting the uterus, and the bowel. However, endometrial tissue can spread to remote sites including the cervix, bladder, and beyond.

Treatment of Endometriosis
Treatment is tailored specifically to your symptoms and fertility desires. Medical management with oral contraceptive pills or an intrauterine device is often first line. However, with persistent symptoms, there is consideration of exploratory laparoscopic surgery and excision of any visible endometriotic implants.
